Harstena has been permanently inhabited since 1543 and is known for its well-preserved island village. Historically, the islanders made their living from seal hunting, a heritage that still shapes the character of the island today.
Visitors can enjoy locally smoked fish, a small bakery, a restaurant, and accommodation for those who wish to stay overnight. In good weather, light refreshments are also available outdoors. Harstena is also a popular destination for leisure boats.
